The former Newry City man suffered an elbow to the face from one of Newington YC’s combative players and had to be withdrawn.

Supporters worried the influential central player would be facing a period on the sidelines.

However, skipper Ryan Moffatt confirmed his team-mate wasn’t as badly hurt as was first feared.

The captain told the LEADER: “Kevin was in hospital with a suspected broken jaw on Saturday night but they got the scans done and it’s not broken.

“That was brilliant news for him and for us.

“Tuda (Murphy) was absolutely fuming about that one. The boy didn’t even just elbow him he really drew it back and hit him a whack.

“Kevin’s a big lad so it must have been a fair dig to put him out.

“He was concussed so I’m not sure what the protocol is but he’ll have to be careful with it.”

Town will also be without goalkeeper Murphy and midfielder Chris McGrath for Saturday’s trip to Tobermore United.
