All roads lead to Windsor

United sealed their place in the quarter finals of the Irish Cup after a double replay involving both Loughgall and Newbuildings. After seeing off Banbridge Rangers 1-0 in the fourth round, Coagh and Loughgall played out a 2-2 draw in the first match but an Aaron Campbell double was enough to see them through to the sixth round.

Newbuildings United travelled to Coagh with a 300+ supporters club and held on to a 1-1 draw in the first match. In the replay a stunning 4-1 victory over Newbuildings United at Hagan Park saw Coagh drawn against League and Cup Champions Linfield.

Coagh co-manager Stephen Uprichard was ecstatic with the victory and admitted that everyone is looking forward to the Linfield tie.

“Getting to the last eight is a major achievement and facing Linfield is the icing on the cake.”

“On the down side two of our most consistent player will miss the trip to Linfield. Team captain Steven Hawe and forward Stephen Lamont will miss the tie and will probably be out for the rest of the season with long term injuries.”

This is only the second time Coagh have tasted the Quarter Finals of the Irish Cup. Some fifteen years ago Coagh were the talk of the town when they beat then Premiership side Larne. On the score sheet against Larne were Timmy Murdock and Alan Boyd while Noel Mitchell was Manager and still is Joint Manager along with Steven Uprichard today.

This set up quarter final tie against Glenavon with Glenavon running out 4-0 winners. On the team sheet against Glenavon were Mark McMemeny who is now the first team Coach and Team Captain Steven Hawe are the only players left involved with Coagh today.

Those players who run out at Windsor Park will add another piece of history to our Village side that has progressed both on and off the field over the past 30 years. Many Clubs envy Coagh’s Hagan Park Pitch and their training facility at Coagh Sports Centre.
