Drivers from across UK set for Raceway this Friday

Oval racers from all four corners of the UK will descend on Ballymena Raceway this Friday (June 12) for an action packed programme of international events at the Showgrounds oval.

Over thirty crews from England and Scotland are travelling across the Irish Sea to compete at the town track where the headline events are the Challenge Trophy for the BriSCA F2 Stock Cars and the British Championship for the ORCi Stock Rods.

Reigning Stock Car World Champion George MacMillan from Glasgow tops the entry list for the F2 Challenge Trophy. The Scotsman currently sits at the top of the National Points Chart and is sure to be a big hit with local fans. Scottish Champion Chris Burgoyne from Falkirk is another very popular driver in the province and will pose a major threat.

The home drivers will be keen to keep the trophy in the province however, with Irish Champion Craig McConnell from Bangor one of the top local hopes for glory. The Antrim based quartet of Christopher Kincaid, Dean McCrory, Ryan McCrory and Conor Hughes are also expected to figure prominently along with former European Champion Graham Fegan and teenage hot shot Bradley McKinstry.

Raceway will also host the prestigious British Championship for the Stock Rod division. It’s another star studded entry for this one too, headed by recently crowned European Champion Derek Conner. The Scottish charger will be joined on the grid by a number of his fellow countrymen such as Scottish Open Champion James Gray and Stuart McKinnon.

Yokohama Champion Steven McKane from Ballymena will lead the local challenge along with Wilfie McNiece from County Armagh. Kells teenager Adam Sloan, Larne’s Gareth Bevan and Richard Taylor from Lisburn are some of the other local hopefuls expected on the grid.

There will also be something new on the Raceway programme this weekend with the first ever appearance in the province of the Heritage F2 Stock Cars.

Friday’s programme of races at the RW Signs sponsored meeting is completed by the Group Two Lightning Rod class which contest Round 3 of their National Series. A great evening of short oval action lies in store with the first race commencing in the Ballymena Showground’s at 7:15pm.
