Dervock take all three points against Moyle

Dervock 2 v 1 Moyle

MOYLE lost their first game of 2010 through a combination of good Dervock play in the first half, not playing to their usual standard and some very important refereeing decisions that went against them.

Dervock started the game strongly and opened the scoring in the second minute with a fine header when their number seven was left unmarked in the box.

They could have made it two five minutes later but the shot flew just wide of the post.

Moyle had a lucky break in the ninth minute when Donal McCloy worked his way up the right wing and swung the ball into the box. The defence were unable to clear his cross and the ball rebounded into the net when it hit a defender on the head.

Moyle had a couple of half chances after this but couldn’t find enough power behind the efforts to beat the Dervock keeper.

Dervock were lucky not to lose a man for an apparent stamp on Benny McCarry but the referee didn’t deem it a serious foul and he booked Benny for his initial tackle.

This spurred Moyle into action and Eddie McCloskey and Donal McCloy both had chances to gain the lead.

Dervock responded with a push up the field. A long ball from the keeper down the right wing saw Moyle unable to defend it. Ryan McGarry saved the shot on goal but unfortunately it fell straight to a Dervock attacker who had a simple tap in.

Moyle almost equalised in the 44th minute when the excellent Lee Watterson saw his 25 yard shot flicked round the post by the keeper.

Moyle upped their game in the second half and Lee Watterson was unlucky when his effort hit the post following a great ball from the attacking Stephen McAfee.

Dervock did well to hold out as Moyle worked hard to get into their normal fast-flowing game.

It was end to end after this with both sides having chances however Dervock were able to hold on for the win and Moyle frustrations grew with Benny McCarry receiving his marching orders.

Lee Watterson was fantastic along with Stephen McAfee who worked his socks off during the game. A real positive was the return to action of Darren McKillop who replaced the injured Martin McGarry and he showed no rustiness from his injury.
