Tributes pour in for Limavady stalwart O’Brien

There was a very subdued feeling around Limavady at the weekend after the death of popular local man Dominic O’Brien, a member of Limavady Cricket and Rugby clubs who passed away on Friday morning after a short illness.

Mr O’Brien was a renowned figure around the grounds in the North West and was one of the game’s great characters wherever he went. Tributes have been pouring in to the cricket social media sites since his death became known and nowhere will the loss be felt more than his own club.

Former secretary Johnnie Hunter, a close personal friend of Dominic’s said that the club was shattered by the news of his passing.

“Dominic was a wonderful character and a true and genuine friend to a great many people,” he said.

“There is a real sense of loss right throughout the town and we at Limavady club are totally devastated.”

Mr O’Brien was buried on Monday afternoon following mass at his local church.
