Junior Cup joy for Lisburn Seconds as locals progress to semi finals as they also defeat Waringstown

Lisburn Seconds had a very successful weekend, winning both their matches on Saturday and Sunday.

Firstly they progressed to the semi final of the Junior Cup with a fine win over Millpark.

The home side batted first on a good wicket and a quick outfield and managed a more than creditable 214 in their 50 overs.

No Lisburn bowler dominated the proceedings with the wickets shared but when it came their turn to bat and chase the challenging target they were well up to the task.

The reply was led by Ricky Finlay who top scored with 88 but he was well supported by skipper Graham Elliott with 65 and Glen Halliday with 52 which took them to a fine 6 wicket victory.

They now face Saintfield in the semi final at the Desmene later in July.

On Sunday, the Seconds faced their stiffest hurdle in their league programme when they travelled to The Lawn to play Waringstown Seconds and came away with their second win of the weekend.

Again their opponents batted first and reached 213 in the allotted 50 overs.

Both youthful spinners, Cyril Vergese and Aaron McKeown took two wickets each and Richard Booth also chipped in with a couple of wickets restricting Waringstown to a manageable 213.

Again the Lisburn batsmen responded well, with the skipper Graham Elliott again leading the way with 59, and his partnership with Graeme Brown who scored 61 not out carried the team to a notable victory by 3 wickets and a place at the top of Junior 1 the reward for their labours.
