This local derby was played at Middle Road where the home side posted an impressive 266 for 4 in their 50 overs, and this left the visitors with too much to do.

In reply Richard Greer’s lads managed to muster only 126 in 39 overs, so they lost by a massive 140 runs.

Jay Hunter top-scored with 34, while Jordi Fettis weighed in with 21, but they lacked support, with the best partnership being 34 between Hunter and professional Bob Homani for the third wicket.

Templepatrick’s wicket takers were Rhydian Davies, Chris Busby and Robert Smith who had one wicket each, while wicket-keeper Hunter’s quick thinking caused the run-out, when he threw down the wicket at the bowler’s end.

Carrick are being strongly tipped to gain promotion this season, so we started as underdogs,” stated skipper Greer.

“We didn’t help our cause with some wayward bowling, and 24 wides in the extras column confirms this. Our batting was sub-standard, but on the positive side our fielding was quite sharp,” he added.
