Cricket: NWCU organise coaching clinics

Following on from last year’s successful “Coaching Clinics” held across the North West, the NW Cricket Union has announced plans to run the venture again this winter, with the first sessions scheduled to start on 20 October.

North West Warriors Team Administrator, Trevor Hamilton said that the aim of the programme was “to enlist the help and expertise of suitably qualified coaches from the North West region to support the Regional Development Squad coaching system over the coming months.”

“At this stage we are looking to give new and existing coaches a chance to get involved and work with both playing groups and other experienced coaches within the Regional Development arena.

“Clinics will be delivered over a number of evenings in Limavady Grammar School, Bready Cricket Club and Fermanagh Lakeland Forum. For now however we are including an ‘expression of interest’ form and would ask anyone interested to get in touch.”

The closing date for applications is this Monday October 12th and completed forms or further details should be directed to Trevor at [email protected].

Meanwhile Fox Lodge have wasted little time in preparing for another tilt at promotion next season by announcing today that Marco Marais will return to Ballymagorry in 2016.

The South African was a huge hit in the North West last season scoring over 1300 runs at an average not far off 90 as the Foxies missed out on top spot in the league by the narrowest of margins.

The Foxies are delighted to be bringing their man back for a second season and Adrian Heywood suggested that Marais had been a ‘model professional’.

“Anybody around the club will confirm that Marco is the type of person you hope for when you bring in an overseas player,” said Heywood.

“His numbers speak for themselves but off the field he is a great ambassador for Fox Lodge. When he isn’t playing you’ll find him at the ground working with the youngsters.”
