Century maker Callum the star

Callum Gibson starred as Lurgan U-13’s beat Instonians last week to progress to the next round of the Banoge Cup.

Instonians batted first, but Harry Lockhart struck in the second over, bowling Metcalfe for a duck. However, Humphries and Rose batted sensibly to add 76 for the second wicket with Humphries in particular accelerating as his innings progressed. Leg spinner Ben Hunter made the breakthrough, bowling Humphries and this slowed the scoring rate down. Tight bowling by Callum Gibson, Harry Lockhart, Peter Hutchinson and Jon Woods kept the Instonians score down to 123 for 4. Harry Lockhart with 2 for 24 was the most successful Lurgan bowler.

Callum Gibson and Max Lyttle opened the batting and Gibson was soon into his stride crashing a number of boundaries. Lyttle played a supporting role, taking singles and giving Gibson as much of the strike as possible. The pair added 59 for the first wicket before Lyttle was caught for 8. Gibson continued to dominate, hitting 11 fours and 6 sixes on his way to a magnificent first hundred. He was joined by Mark Hutchinson who supported him with 14 not out, seeing Lurgan home to victory by 9 wickets with 8 balls to spare. Special mention must go to Instonians bowler, Keane, who bowled 4 overs taking 1 for 12 when all the other bowlers were being hit to all corners of the ground by Gibson.

The Tigers face Carrickfergus in the quarter-finals.
