Boost for Derriaghy

AS Derriaghy Cricket Club prepare to face Carrickfergus at home in their opening game of the 2013 season this Saturday in League 1 of the Ulster Bank NCU league they received a boost as they have confirmation that their new overseas player/coach Yogesh Takawale will be arriving this week.

Yogesh is a 28 year old Indian top order batsman who originally bowled right arm spin but in more recent times has kept wicket.

He comes from the same area as former overseas player Kausik Aphale, who is currently professional at Ballymena, and has represented Maharaashtra province in the past.

The club are looking forward to his arrival and getting him involved with the many schools in which he will be coaching. Along with the arrival of Yogesh club captain Matthew Jennings has also persuaded Mark Stinson a medium pace bowler from last year’s League 1 champions Lurgan to join the club and both should be in the starting line up for Saturday’s game at Queensway which starts at 1pm.

Derriaghy did manage to fit in a friendly last weekend away to Muckamore and although they suffered defeat it was a useful warm up for the season ahead. Along with senior outdoor practice on Tuesday and Thursday evenings the club’s youth training has also started on Monday’s with those in primary schools attending from 5.45pm while under 13 and under 15’s follow at 7pm. All these sessions will be lead by the clubs many qualified coaches and new members will be made very welcome. Just come along and give it a try.
