Comfortable win for Stute

Lurgan Institute 5

Annagh Utd 0

LURGAN Institute went into Saturday's game full of confidence on the back of five straight league victories, and they were keen to increase this against the league's basement side.

Despite Annagh's poor league position they were able to field several players who have featured for their first team in the 2nd Division of the Irish league, so Institute knew they would have to be focused.

In the first half the Stute struggled to impose themselves on their opponents, and breaking them down was proving quite a job as Annagh seemed content to pitch their defence on the 18 yard line from the start.

Shaw had a chance to open the scoring, but his header went over. The only other chance fell to Savage who struck the upright from Kelly's cross.

The second half was a totally different affair to the first with the Institute starting to make use of the ball. They got their reward early as Savage scored from Lindsay's cross.

The Stute's second goal soon followed when good play by Stokes and Gilkinson saw McCoy control the ball outside the area, and his volley found the bottom corner.

McCoy was in the thick of the action again as he collected the ball in the area, his quick feet got him away from the defender only to be dragged down, the referee was left with no choice but to award the penalty. Up stepped Chris Kelly, and he made no mistake giving the keeper no chance.

Institute were in full flow down playing some excellent football.. Manager McCann then brought on Lee White, his impact was immediate. Stokes and Banks won the ball and released White down the left wing, he breezed past the defender with ease and his pin perfect cross found the excellent McCoy who grabbed his second of the day.

McCann then introduced Hollis to the game, and within seconds he slotted the ball into the top corner with his first touch.

With six wins in a row, the Institute are now up to third in the table. Best on the day was the defence of Banks, Kelly and Morrissey not allowing Annagh one shot on target and Man of the Match was Graeme McCoy who was in fine form.
