Castle seal last gasp victory

WITH the girls of Ballycastle Hockey Club finally getting their season back on track after the recent weather conditions, they welcomed fierce rivals Donaghadee to the Quay Road Complex.

Donaghadee cranked up the pressure early on and with the help of a defensive error opened the scoring midway through the half.

Ballycastle captain Niki O'Rielly was giving her opposition no time on the ball, and her pressure paid off, intercepting a pass just past the half way line Niki left two defenders in her wake as she bombed towards the circle, a trademark O'Rielly finish burst the back of the net.

However the score quickly changed again, just before the break Donaghadee added a deflected second and a well worked third goal to leave the score 3-1 at half time.

With six minutes left on the clock nobody could have predicted what was going to happen next.

With a couple of substitutions and a change of position for Libby Peacock which found her upfront 'Castle had the away team penned in. A quick lay off at the edge of the circle from Brolly to McNiell gave the midfielder space to find the bottom corner with an impressive strike, 3-2.

Straight from the whistle the local girls found possesion through birthday girl Tori Rielly, racing down the right flank Tori fired a superb ball into the circle and a superb first time strike from Helena Dornan found the bottom corner, 3-3.

With less than 20 seconds on the clock, immense pressure from O'Rielly and Louise Brolly won Ballycastle the ball, a slip pass from O'Rielly into the circle left Dornan facing the oncoming 'keeper, but never being one to panic, Helena calmly slide the ball square to Libby Peacock, who with the last defender to beat, slide the ball into the bottom corner out of reach.

This proved to be the last touch of the game. 4-3.
