‘The Jackal’ eyes Quigg fight

The former Glengormley High School pupil described his win over Avalos as “easy” after he stopped the Californian fighter in the fifth round at Belfast’s Odyssey Arena on Saturday night.

In the build-up to the fight Frampton, 28, had insisted there would only be one winner when the two men got between the ropes and into the four corners of truth. And he delivered, retaining the world crown he won against Kiko Martinez in style.

The Belfast fighter had Avalos rocking in the second round and midway through the fifth it was all over when referee Howard Foster decided enough was enough after ‘The Jackal’ pounded his opponent.

Now Frampton wants a to go toe-to-toe with WBA regular world champion Quigg later this year.

“I would love it,” he said. “I think Scott wants it, it’s a summer showdown between the both of us. It’s a massive fight but Scott needs to remember who’s the real world champion.”

On Sunday morning Frampton took to Twitter to reiterate his desire to fight the man from Bury, England. “It’s time to do the @scottquigg fight now!” he wrote.

In response, Quigg tweeted: “I’m ready, let’s get it made!”

Saturday’s bout, shown live on ITV, will have helped raise Frampton’s profile to new levels. It was the first world title fight, staged in the UK, to be screened on terrestrial television for seven years.
