The success of the Ballyclare senior rugby side has resulted in no fewer than four of their star players having been called up to the Ulster Juniors panel.

Skipper Robert Boyd, who has been an inspirational leader, heads a list that also includes wing-forward Gary Weatherup, utility three-quarter Gary Clotworthy and fly-half, Niall Lawther.

They will join the party of 30 that will be off to Letterkenny this weekend for a practice against a local selection, in preparation for the opening junior inter-provincial in Larne on Saturday, April 26.

This quartet will be missing from Bob Young’s selection that lines out against Strabane on Saturday at The Cloughan.

Strabane, still without a point in their first season in Qualifying League 2, forfeited the points when they were scheduled to entertain the White Hare men last month.

Ballyclare are champions and will be playing in Qualifying League 1 next season following almost a decade at the lower level.

Meanwhile, club officials are appealing for a good turn-out of players and friends on Saturday (April 26) for the popular annual barbecue at The Cloughan.
