ATHLETICS: Garrett first over line for Larne at Mallusk race

First home for the club was Bobbie Garrett in a time of 34:23 (41st position).

Thomas Morrow finished shortly after in 52nd place with a time of 35:37.

Next was Emmett Woods, who was 80th overall with 38:19 on the clock. Paul Magee ran strongly, with a time of 54:06 for 201st.

On Saturday, Larne AC junior athlete Jack Baxter took first place overall in a 50-strong field at the Clear Water Triathlon in Camlough, with a winning time of 32:34.

Allan Molloy won Larne AC’s Greenwood Cup handicap on Saturday, with Phelim McAllister and Bernard Brady claimed second and third respectively.

Also on Saturday, Gillian Logan took part in the final race of the Pure Running Half-Marathon series, ‘Dambusters’, at Silent Valley where she hoped to maintain her third place position in female open category of the series.

Gillian tackled the mixed terrain course, clocking 1.46.24, placing 10th female in the half-marathon.

Meanwhile, five LAC members joined 900 runners in taking on the challenging Warriors Run in Strandhill, Co.Sligo.

The multi-terrain 15k includes a gruelling climb to reach the summit of Knoknarea Mountain at 1,073 ft. The event was won by Ian Conroy of Raheny Shamrock AC in a time of 53:32.

John Neill and Martan Keane once again put in especially strong performances ensuring the red LAC vests made an impact at the finish line.

Neill, gaining the advantage on Keane down the extremely tricky descent, finished first for the club in an unbelievable 11th place in 1:02:54, unfortunately just missing out on a top 10 spot.

Martan finished in 16th overall in 1:04:09, knocking 15 minutes of his previous time. Bert Shaw ran an impressive race to finish in 126th overall in 1:18:19 and seventh in his age category.

Elaine Hall and Juliane Keane also completed the challenge, finishing as 69th and 96th female in times of 1:34:31 and 1:38:16 respectively.

On Sunday, Larne ladies Gillian Logan and Bernie Regan travelled to a very wet Letterkenny to take part in the Donegal Half-Marathon. Gillian, who had completed the Dambusters Half-Marathon less than 24 hours earlier, finished the town and country out-and-back course in 1.46.10.

Bernie Regan was next to finish in a new personal best time of 1.49.8, which was enough to claim second in the Female 55 category.
