ATHLETICS: East Coast AC weekly update

There was success for junior athlete Kelly Patterson, who won the Belfast Hills 2k race on Saturday.

Kelly not only was the first girl to finish, but also took fourth place overall with her time of 9:49.

On Saturday, 24 East Coast AC athletes made the short journey to Ballyclare for the May Fair 10k and associated 5k.

In the 10k, Andy Guy finished in seventh overall and first in his category when he crossed the line in 36:36. Kevin Lynch was next in 40:48 (30th), with James Robinson (43:00) and Brian Mailman (43:23) close behind. Iain Bailie clocked 47:21, followed by Connie Hodge in 47:21 (14th lady).

In the 5k Fun Run, Johanna McIlroy ran a time of 27:55.

Six club members travelled to Newry for Sunday’s Newry Marathon and Half Marathon. In the marathon Matthew Hewitt recorded a time of 2:53:56. Keith Hetherington, Lynn Magee, Doris Kirby, Joanne Knox and Cyndy Hay all completed the half marathon.

At race two of the East Antrim Harriers Forest Trail Series in Tardree Forest Iain Bailie was first home for the club, finishing in 22:58 (47th). James Robinson followed in 23:39, before Alan Glover in 24:32. Connie Hodge ran well in a time of 24:38 (12th lady), followed by Lesley Robinson in 29:03.
