Aileen misses out on podium
She grimaced as she crossed the line outside the medal places after remaining in contention for the majority of the race.
The first medal of the Commonwealth Games went to England’s Jodie Stimpson, who crossed the line in 01:58:56 in a thrilling climax in the Glasgow sunshine.

Hide AdLocal athlete Aileen had entered the foot race in medal contention after crossing the blue carpet towards the end of the cycling in third place. A front pack of six formed in the first lap of the foot race, with Aileen Reid on the periphery throughout.
In the blistering heat, the local triathlete fell behind as Stimpson, Holland and Sweetland made a push for the finish.
Aileen Reid finished in sixth place, 50 seconds behind the winning time of 01:58:56.
