A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY

The Under-14 girls took to the field at Pairc Eoghain Rua against Limavady Wolfhounds in a challenge game. In a keenly contested match there were great signs of encouragement from the local side as they kept within distance of their neighbours until midway through the second half when the Limavady side showed their experience to open up a gap and run out winners.

The first half started well for the home side with Aoife Boorman and Shauna Doherty at midfield holding their own and indeed Eoghan Rua took the lead with a sweetly struck point from play by Aoife Bradley following some good link play with Shauna Doherty. Further incursions into the Limavady half surprisingly didn’t yield any further rewards on the scoreboard, though Olivia Mullan, Niamh Morrison, Grace Taylor and Eve Lundy all looked threatening when the play came their way. Indeed Eve Lundy, a current Under-12 showed great determination to dispossess current county Under -14 player Chloe Andersen during a period of play in the first half.

Limavady gradually took control as the first half wore on but some great defensive work by Niamh Boorman, Anna Morrison and Anna Frizelle helped keep their very much in contention. Limavady equalised and just on the stroke of half time took the lead with a goal.

At half time there was some juggling of the line out as players were tried out in different positions for the second half. The full back line remained unchanged however and indeed showed some great composure in the second half. Some of the support play by the full back line of Sarah Moore, Leah Dollard and Francesca Watson was of the highest order.

Limavady started brightly however and registered a further two points to open up a five point gap. Then Brenda Grant, brought out of goals for the second half crashed a long range effort off the cross bar. This fell to Aoife Boorman who struck a sweet drive to the net to reduce the deficit to two points.

This seemed to spur the Limavady team into action as they brought on a few subs and started winning more possession around the middle of the field. The defensive rearguard action of the Coleraine team was very encouraging as Grace Taylor made a number of fine saves to help keep her side in it. Indeed some good defensive play from Eoghan Rua helped get the ball clear and quick movement towards the full forward line produced a goal chance where Darcey Kelly was very unlucky to see a great effort just miss the target.

Limavady stepped up again and registered a further three goals as they ran out winners on a scoreline of 4-6 to 1-1
