Workmen being treated after Derry crane fall

Police say they received a report of an incident in the Port Road this morning at approximately 10am.

PSNI Inspector Colin Hamilton said: “It is reported that three men had fallen from a crane and are now being treated by NIAS.”

A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said:“Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) received a call at 9:52am to a report of an incident at the Port Road area of Strathfoyle this morning.

“Four Fire Appliances from Crescent Link Fire Station, one Fire Appliance from Northland Fire Station and the Fire Emergency Support Service vehicle were deployed to the scene of a report that three men had fallen from a crane in the area. Northern Ireland Ambulance Service are currently assessing their condition.”

Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney has said that the men are in his thoughts and prayers and wishes them a full and speedy recovery.

“Obviously there will be a Health and Safety investigation which must be carried out as exhaustively and thoroughly as is possible.

“The Health and Safety of workers must be paramount in every working environment and the results and any recommendations emanating from any investigation must be rigorously implemented and adhered to,” he said.
