Whitemountain group to hold AGM and information evening

WHITEMOUNTAIN & District Community Association will hold their Annual General Meeting and an information evening on Monday 17th October at the Bridge Community Centre (starting 7.30pm) and would like to invite everyone in the area along to take part in planning for the future.

Outgoing chairperson of the group John Belshaw commented: “We are now formally three years old and hopefully have helped connect together residents of the areas bounded by Sheepwalk Road, Pond Park Road, Beanstown, Glenavy Road and Whinney Hill in the townlands of the Whitemountain, Aghnahough, Beanstown, Ballyclough and surrounding areas just North of the city.

“Through help from other organisations we are affiliated with, notably Lisburn Community Services at Bridge Community Centre, RCN, TADA and Volunteer Now we have had a fairly packed year.

“Communicating with residents has been a big focus and though the use of flyers, the new web site (www.whitemountain.org.uk) and the first ever community survey in the area hopefully we have helped make residents feel part of something in their area. A special thanks must also go to The Ulster Star for helping us communicate to a varied audience.

“To keep up with the times we have also just launched our presence on Facebook under ‘Whitemountain Community’ and hopefully that might also help in communicating around our area.

“Following on from our first ‘field-trip’ to our own national nature reserve at Beshaws Quarry we hope that residents will come along to our AGM on 17th October and maybe hear about some other things in the area that is of interest.

“Local councillors are also invited and hopefully those attending will take on board any local issues that people have.”
