Wedding service disrupted by blast

MONSIGNOR Aidan Hamill said those who carried out Saturday's attack were 'evil'.

St Peter's Church was hosting a wedding at the time of the blast, which happened only a matter of yards away on North Street.

Monsignor Hamill said there was an immense bang and the guests ran outside to see what had happened.

"The wedding was about three-quarters of the way through when we heard an unmerciful bang," he said.

"Everyone ran out to see what it was, it was only about 100 yards away - it was very upsetting for all."

The clergyman added: "We just had to get on with it and the couple had to make the best of it - they said their wedding got off with a bang.

"But it was no joking matter, the consequences could have been very serious.

"Those that are carrying out these attacks have got it wrong, what they are doing is evil.

"They have to stop with these senseless attacks on the community and move forward to a more constructive way of living.

"They have put young children's lives at risk and I would appeal to those carrying this out to stop."
