We 'Can Can' learn computers!

THE Acorn Business Centre and 'Computer Learn' are joining forces to provide IT training to adults labelled with learning disabilities from the 'Can Can Recycling Project' in Ballymoney.

‘The Can Can Recycling Project’ operates under the umbrella of ‘Compass Advocacy Network Ltd’ and is a project that offers training opportunities for adults labelled with a learning disability. These adults learn new skills and develop existing ones, in order to prepare them to make the transition to supported employment.

As a result of The Acorn Business Centre and ‘Computer Learn’ combining their efforts and resources, a four week computer training course has been devised in order to help members of the ‘Can Can Recycling Project’

Francis Ashe, Manager of the Acorn Business Centre understands the importance of local enterprise agencies getting involved in community projects and ‘for us at Acorn, to be in a position to support a local charity by facilitating IT training in conjunction with ‘Computer Learn’, is an honour and a privilege and hopefully will be the beginning of other interesting projects and collaborations in the future.’

The course will incorporate four main IT related topics, including, An Introduction to Computers, Microsoft Word, Internet and Email, enabling the participants to learn basic IT skills which are synonymous with so many modern businesses.

Further computer training will be made available for Can Can and other local charities later in the year at Acorn, through the ‘Computer Learn’ initiative set up by local IT trainer, Elvin Cochrane. Elvin is delighted to be working with the Can Can group and hopes that ‘in the future other charities and community groups will be able to avail of the tailored IT training offered by ‘Computer Learn.’
