Wastewater works will address Killea sewerage issues

SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan has welcomed correspondence from Northern Ireland Water Chief Executive Sara Venning confirming the construction of a new wastewater treatment works at Nixon’s Corner which will address problems occurring in the sewerage system at Burnside Manor, Killea Road.

Mr Durkan said: “Residents from Burnside Manor have contacted me highlighting their frustration and concerns over ongoing sewerage problems in their homes.

“Following representations to NI Water, I am delighted to have received a letter confirming that they have recently awarded a contract for the construction of new wastewater treatment facilities at nearby Nixon’s Corner which will also accommodate any effluent flows diverted from Killea – including domestic properties at Burnside Manor.

“NI Water have also inspected the sewers at this location and can confirm there are no significant issues that would delay the adoption process other than the lack of a suitable foul discharge point which will be addressed by the construction of the treatment works.”
