Warning over car park vandalism

A LOCAL resident has warned motorists to be aware after his wife’s car was vandalised for the second time in the Benson Street car park.

The latest damage was caused last Thursday while the woman’s car was in the free car park.

When she returned she found the protective covers for the mechanics on the back of each wing mirror had been removed.

The woman’s husband said: “This is the second time my wife’s car has been vandalised in the car park in the last year. There is no CCTV cover and the fact the car park is encased by the railway line and trees means there is nothing to prevent anyone coming in and doing something like this.”

The man said that his wife’s car has previously had wind protectors stolen from the windows.

He added: “It is quite a big car park, with upwards of 100 cars during the day, so there are plenty of vehicles for people to steal from. We reported it to the police but there is not much they can do about it.

“I would just like to make people aware that this is happening, it is more a point of principle.”

The man said the incident has left his wife less keen to use in the car park.

“This would very much put her off parking there. It is a secluded area and you don’t know who’s hanging about there, especially with the darker nights. I just want to make people aware what’s going on” he said.
