Bloody Sunday window for Guildhall

DERRY City Council is inviting artists to submit tenders for a new stained glass window in the Londonderry Guildhall commemorating Bloody Sunday.

The local authority wants the successful bidder to eventually work with the families of those killed and injured to create the new memorial.

The closing date for the submission of tenders is September 6.

The Bloody Sunday Trust will facilitate the work between the artists and the relatives.

“The Artist is not expected to be a stained glass window manufacture or to manufacture a stained glass window,” the local authority explains.

“The Artist will be expected to consult and work with a specialist stained glass window manufacturer in the realisation of the completed project.”

Londonderry’s Guildhall was the venue for an advance sighting of the Bloody Sunday Inquiry report for the families back in the summer of 2010.

Fourteen people were killed by members of the paratroop regiment on January 30, 1972, with many more injured.

The current Prime Minister David Cameron’s apology at Westminster was beamed live into Guildhall Square.
