Two men to stand trial for cultivating cannabis in Cookstown

Two Vietnamese men facing charges around cannabis cultivation are to stand trial at crown court.

Dinh Ly Vu (55) and Hung Nguyen (57) whose addresses were given as no fixed abode, but are currently remanded in custody in Maghaberry Prison appeared by video-link at a recent sitting of East Tyrone Magistrates Court.

They are jointly accused of cultivating cannabis plants, possessing cannabis and intending to supply as well as dishonest use of electricity.

The offences are alleged to have been committed at Keenaghan Road, Cookstown on July 14.

A prosecution lawyer said the case is proceeding on indictment. District Judge John Meehan ruled a preliminary enquiry will be held on November 28 when it is expected both men will be committed for trial.
