Two local families bereaved by four deaths in ten days
Two of the four were husband and wife, Johnny and Mary Butler from Blackpark, Ballyvoy. Mr Butler passed away on April 7 and his wife died on April 17. Both were highly respected members of the community.
Mrs Butler, a mother of 10, was in her 88th year and was buried at St. Patrick’s Church, Culfeightrin, alongside her husband following Mass at St. Patrick’s Church.

Hide AdThe loss of Mr and Mrs Butler as well as Mrs Black and Mr Brown has been widely felt by family members and friends and the large attendance at all of the funerals testified to the esteem in which all four were held.
Mr Butler was a tireless worker for charity particularly Marie Curie and was also a keen ploughman and horse enthusiast taking part in many of the ploughing events in the area.
The death of Mrs Bernadette (Dette) Black, a sister of Mrs Butler, took place on April 7.
The mother of 12, who lived at Strandview Road, Ballycastle, was buried in the cemetery at St. Patrick’s and St. Brigid’s Church following Requiem Mass.

Hide AdThe fourth person to pass away on April 10 was Mr Gerald Brown of Broughmore, Glenshesk, who was also buried in the cemetery at St. Patrick’s and St. Brigid’s.
Mr Brown, the brother of Mrs Butler, is survived by his wife, Margaret, and by children, Anne, Bridget, Kathleen and Kevin.
