Touched woman's buttocks as she left

Oscar Guimares, Dingwell Park, Lurgan, appeared last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

He admitted that on June 21 last year he intentionally touched a female and that the touching was sexual and that she did not consent to the touching.

The court heard that on August 4 last year at 4pm the injured party attended at Lurgan police station.

She was visibly shaken and said that while she was carrying out an official visit at the home of the defendant at 12.45pm she had been sexually assaulted by the defendant.

The injured party said that as she was being ushered out of the property by the defendant he put his hand on her back.

She then claimed he moved his hand down to her buttocks and said ‘you have a lovely bum’.

She felt uncomfortable and told him he couldn’t do that and at that point Guimares laughed.

When interviewed the next day the defendant admitted to touching her buttocks and said that he treated everyone the same and would do the same with a friend.

He accepted he had made a mistake and apologised for his actions.

A barrister representing the defendant said he would say he did not do this in a sexual way but felt that he had done something wrong. He was very remorseful.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said he would require a pre-sentence report to assess the likelihood of re-offending and risk of harm.

He adjourned sentencing until May 6 so that a report could be obtained.
