The vehicles had been left temporarily unattended when the incidents occurred.

Some items were found and handed in to police by a member of the public a short time later.

A police spokesperson said: "We cannot stress enough the importance of ensuring all motorised vehicles are kept locked and inaccessible to potential thieves.

"Leaving your vehicle, for however short a period, in an unlocked state or with keys in the ignition, is an open invitation to any opportunistic passer-by or 'would be' thief.

"Avoid keeping any valuable personal documentation or information in your vehicle at any time and never leave it unlocked, or with open doors or windows. Remember this simple rule - 'close it:lock it'."
