Sweet skirl of success for Kris

The 64th annual competition was held in Monkstown Community School on Saturday, April 12.

Organised by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association Northern Ireland Branch, the event attracted the province’s top pipers and drummers.

The piping adjudicators were Alan Forbes and Harry Stevenson and the drumming adjudicators were Mark Wilson and Sandy Steele.

After several hours of intense competition, Alderman Dineen Walker, Deputy Mayor of Newtownabbey, presented the silverware to the overall winners.

They were: Kris Coyle of Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band, 2014 Ulster Senior Piping Champion and William Glenholmes of Cullybackey Pipe Band, 2014 Ulster Senior Drumming Champion.

Kris, a member of Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band since 2005, previously played with the  Monkstown Mossley Pipe Band.
