‘Surf ‘n’ Turf’ Benone race to attract large crowds

A charitable ‘Surf ‘n’ Turf’ running event is to take place at Benone Beach in just over a fortnight in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The event organisers, known as ‘Born2Run’, are following up a previous ‘Surf ‘n’ Turf’ held in County Wexford last year.

They chose Benone after being “blown away” by the stunning natural beauty of the North Coast beach.

The running event offers a choice of two distances - a half marathon or a 10 kilometer run - and organisers say runners “are bound to enjoy this race whatever their race distance preference.”

The ‘Born2Run’ team behind the race say that they set out looking for a location in Ireland “that would combine a mix of road, boardwalk and beach” and were “blown away” when they visited Benone Strand.

“The location is perfect, exactly what we were looking for”, said Jane Rowe from ‘Born2Run.

“Benone ticked every box for us”, she added. “‘The beach has miles of hard sand suitable for running on and the elevated country road offers runners awesome views west across the Inishowen Peninsula to Donegal and east to Scotland”.

Born2Run say the event in Benone is expected to attract ‘loyal followers’ from all over Ireland and further afield. Everyone who takes part will receive a beautiful commemorative medal as a souvenir of their achievement.

THE chosen charity is Marie Curie Cancer Care and a donation will be made to them from the race proceeds. This race will be chip-timed and all runners will be treated to a post race BBQ weather permitting.

Entries are open and online entry will remain open until 14th May.
