Stranocum in the past - book to be published

A start was made following a meeting held in the Community hall and attended by locals who, it is hoped, will impart as much information as they can as well as providing photographs.

The aim is to produce a book – ideally to be published around Christmas – of historical data which will stir many memories amongst the residents both in the village and in the district.

Organised by Stranocum and District Community Association, many see this as a very laudible exercise and local resident, Nicola Lennon, is the project leader.

Introducing and explaining what it was all about at the Community centre, Nicola appealed for information historical facts about old buildings, stories that would be of interest and groups that existed in the area in the past.

She said that questionnaires would be sent out to all groups seeking their co-operation

The Association are preparing themselves for some hard work but they have got off to a positive start and many hope they will be successful in their efforts.

One of the village’s oldest residents, Mr David Patton, who will be 93 in September, was one of those taking part and at the end of an enjoyable evening’s entertainment his knowledge and memories were put on record.

Armoy Women’s Institute provided some excellent entertainment in a sketch charting life from infancy to old age while Sue Whitla from the Salvation Army in Larne displayed a marvellous singing voice accompanying herself on the guitar.
