Strabane playschool closure

A NURSERY school in Strabane is to be scrapped before the New Year with a local primary school set to fill the gap.

Education Minister John O’Dowd has named Ballycolman Nursery School in Strabane as one of a number of facilties affected by current development proposals.

It was revealed earlier this month that “Ballycolman Nursery School will close from December 31, 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter.”

This was predicated upon prior Ministerial approval being given.

To meet the demand there is a related proposal that St Mary’s Primary School establish an additional double nursery unit (52 fulltime places) using the existing Ballycolman site. This will increase enrolment to 104 fulltime places with effect from January 1, 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter. A two month objection period ends on December 12.
