Shiels Court, on Ballymoney’s Castle Street, consists of 36 flats where tenants enjoy an independent lifestyle in the knowledge that support is available onsite.

The event was organised by OakleeTrinity, who manage the facility, to raise the profile of sheltered housing and the benefits to the Shiels Court tenants.

Attending the Open Day, Minister Storey said: “This style of housing is an excellent way to support the independence of older people in a safe and secure environment. The accommodation is of a high quality and tenants are safe in the knowledge that support is available should they need it.

“It was a great pleasure to meet with a number of the tenants today, including Agnes O’Neill who invited me in to her home.

“Open days such as this are an important opportunity for local people to see at first hand the quality of accommodation available for older people in the community.”

Timothy Quin, Chairman of OakleeTrinity said: “OakleeTrinity welcomes the Minister for Social Development, Mr Mervyn Storey, to Shiels Court.
