Sleepy eyed MP has Facebook page hijacked

LAGAN Valley MP Jeffrey Donaldson’s many followers on Facebook must have wondered what was going on last week as it became clear someone had hijacked his page.

But the politician didn’t have to look too far for the culprit - it was his daughter Laura.

Mr Donaldson, who makes full use of social media to keep in contact with his constituents, was caught out after falling asleep on the train and leaving his Facebook account logged in on his computer while he and wife Eleanor were taking Laura back to univesity.

Laura seized the opportunity and posted a status update in her father’s name. “I love my daughter Laura so much!” she wrote. “She is class...secretly I just wish I could be half a legend as her...I also love falling asleep on trains with my iPad in my hands and leaving my Facebook signed in...lush.”

Mr Donaldson was inundated with comments from constituents about the post. When he woke up and discovered what had been done, he admits he was at first “grumpy” but soon saw the funny side.

“Thanks for all the comments guys,” he posted on Facebook. “An old man can’t have a decent doze on a train these days. By the way, to make things worse my wife applauded this behaviour! It’s just criminal.... Lol. Well and truly had but my day will come.”

Speaking after arriving back in his constituency, Mr Donaldson said both of his daughters had “a wicked sense of humour” and that their dad was “often the target.”

He continued: “Eleanor and I were taking Laura to university in Norwich, where she is starting her second year of midwifery. I was on Facebook replying to constituents and I fell asleep still logged on.

“My daughter managed to get her hands on my computer and posted a status update to inform the world that her dad had fallen asleep on the train. She also made some very complimentary remarks about herself.

“This went on for about an hour with lots of people posting comments until I awoke to discover my domicile status had been revealed to all concerned. To cap it all my wife applauded this behaviour and thought it was all very funny.

“Whilst a grumpy dad wasn’t exactly amused at the start, when I read all the comments made I found the funny side,” he added.

It could have been worse. Mr Donaldson woke up just before Laura managed to take a photographer of her dozing dad and post it on the page for everyone to see.
