Krzystof Lagoda, whose address was given as Churchill Gardens, Portadown, was sentenced to 60 hours community service last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

He had pleaded guilty to common assault when he appeared at an earlier court and sentencing was adjourned so that a pre-sentence report could be obtained.

The court heard that on February 6 this year police received a report of an assault on a female.

The injured party said that the defendant had slapped her across the face earlier in the evening. Lagoda was located the Park Road area.

He made a full admission to slapping her once on the face.

The defendant told police he had consumed a lot of alcohol and on the way home they started arguing. The injured party walked off on her own.

When he got home Lagoda could not find her and when she arrived later there was another argument and he slapped her.

The defendant was remorseful for his actions and the victim did not want to make a complaint.

Mr Gabriel Ingram, representing the defendant, said the injured party had forgiven Lagoda and they were still together.
