Show your support for Action Cancer - donate an old bra

THE members of Curves gym in Dunmurry are giving their support to Action Cancer by donating their old and unwanted bras to the charity.

The gym has installed a 'bra bank' at their premises in Kingsway for both members and non-members to donate unwanted bras and for each kilo deposited, 1 will be donated to Action Cancer.

Last year Curves clubs across England, Wales and Northern Ireland collectively raised over 50,000 for breast cancer charities through numerous fundraising events - they hope to improve on that great total this year.

Rosalind Surgeon, Manager of Curves Dunmurry, said: "This year we want to make an even bigger contribution to Action Cancer so we're urging all local women to raid their underwear drawers and lend their support to this fantastic cause.

"I'm sure that everyone knows someone who has been affected by breast cancer in some way, so it's hugely important that the local community supports campaigns to help charities like Action Cancer continue with its great work."

Leigh Chamberlain of Action Cancer said: "We're really excited about working with Curves this year and are incredibly grateful to all the staff and members at Curves Dunmurry for their support. Action Cancer are the only charity in Northern Ireland providing free breast screening to women outside the NHS age range. With the help of Curves of Dunmurry we will be able to raise awareness of this lifesaving service in the local community while getting a step closer to achieving our mission to save lives and support people in Northern Ireland affected by cancer."

The women-only gym is also waiving the 119 joining fee for new members during October in return for a donation to Action Cancer.
