Serious message behind another fine fundraiser

THE Concern Worldwide Carrickfergus Support Group raised the fantastic total of £534 on its very first fundraising event - with the help of legendary comedy duo Laurel and Hardy.

The group launched their debut fundraiser at Stormont Pavilion , where fans old and new, young and young at heart, gathered for an evening of fun watching classic Laurel and Hardy movies, courtesy of the Another Fine Mess tent.

After an introduction to the work of Concern Worldwide by the director of the Belfast office, a DVD was shown to highlight the aims of the organisation - which includes helping the poorest of the poor throughout the world during emergency situations.

It was then on to the main event and the timeless black and white Laurel and Hardy movies. The main film of the evening was Way Out West, perhaps the best known of all the duo’s films. During the interval, Stormont provided a hot buffet and drinks. Raffle tickets were also snapped up for some great prizes.

Roberta Gordon, a member of the Carrick support group who worked as an emergency relief nurse in many African countries, thanked Keith Davidson, Gerry Dunne and everyone involved for all their hard work, as well as all those who attended on the night.

The support group hope to have more fundraising events during the year and would very much welcome anyone who is interested in helping. For more information contact Joe Reid on 028 933 78137 or email [email protected]
