When police stopped a car and noticed the driver was not wearing a seat belt it led to him facing a number of other charges.

Jan Ferencik (35), Eden Avenue, Portadown, admitted the offences when he appeared last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

For driving without having insurance he was fined £250 and given six points. He was also fined £60 for not wearing a seat belt, £60 for a defective tyre and £75 for not having a vehicle test certificate.

The court heard that on July 8 the defendant was stopped by police. A check of the data base revealed there was no insurance in place, the offside rear tyre was defective and he had no vehicle test certificate.

A solicitor representing the defendant said his insurance had lapsed and he had intended to get insurance but had been working. He added that Ferencik now had insurance and a vehicle test certificate.

The solicitor explained that he had been working and took a chance to drive and was stopped on the way home.
