Ryan cooks up storm in the music world

A DJ and music producer from Limavady has been signed to one of the UK's top underground music labels after working alongside some of the world's biggest names in the industry.

24-year-old Ryan Mullin from the town, who has been a DJ since he was 15, has just signed an 11 track album deal with Baroque Records after releasing his very own vinyl record. The young Limavady man, who also runs his own chip shop, has worked alongside the likes of Judge Jules, Eric Prydz and Seb Fontaine throughout his career where he regularly DJ's at top Northern Ireland nightclub Lush.

"It all just started off as past time but it has came with a passion which has led me to where I am at now." Ryan told the Sentinel.

"I have been DJing since I was 15, starting off here in Limavady playing records at the Gorteen. My first big gig was at Kelly's in Portrush, now known as Lush. That came about through my Djing at the rugby club here in the town. Col Hamilton, who is Lush resident and promoter, invited me to do a warm up set with him and since then I have been Djing regularly since.

"I have made some great contacts through Lush. Funkagenda, Seb Fontaine, I also recently flew over to Radio 1 and sat in on a live broadcast with Judge Jules which was a great experience."

Ryan is now looking forward to producing his own music over the coming months to be included on his future album.

"It will probably take the next couple of years for it to be officially released. It roughly takes a few months to get a track engineered and completed properly and there are 11 tracks in total."

The up and coming DJ also runs his very own take-away in the town, 'The Chippy' on Catherine Street which he says will stand number one beside his music.

Ryan said: "It's the one that pays the bills so it does come first. At the moment the chip shop has it's own achievements to look after as it's the only take-away of it's kind in Northern Ireland that caters for coeliacs. We will be holding a weekend on the 6th and 7th of March to promote how we cater for people with this condition, as so many people do suffer from it, and suffer from not having a great choice of food."

"In terms of music, I will be focusing on completing the album and continuing the DJ work. The ideal would be a resident somewhere at a decent club, the thought of flying from here to there playing at different clubs scares me a bit."
