RSPB members hold AGM

MEMBERS of the Coleraine RSPB Group held their annual general meeting earlier this month.

The meeting welcomed Janet Wilson, RSPB Education Manager.

Janet gave a talk on the work carried out in Kenya by the charity Grassroots Initiative Funding and Training (GIFT).

Through the charity, small projects are identified in Kenya. The projects are all environmentally friendly and have included assisting local tribes, bee-keeping, sheep rearing and butterfly projects. These projects have provided much needed income for the small African villages.

Coleraine members were pleased to have heard of this worthwhile work carried out on a voluntary basis by the RSPB staff members.

During the AGM, Dr Ken Perry was elected as Group Leader, Mr Peter Robinson was elected as Hon Treasurer, Mrs Helen McKeown was elected as Hon Secretary, while Mrs Sean Harten, Mr Bert Montgomery and Mr Stanley Patten will form the committee.

The new season will begin for the group in St Patrick’s Minor Hall on Monday, September 20, at 7.30pm.

Any new members will be made very welcome.
