Retailer eyeing up city store

IT'S believed one of the UK's biggest bargain retailers may locate one of its stores in Londonderry as part of a plan to expand into Northern Ireland.

While management at Liverpool-based retailer, Home Bargains, were remaining tightlipped about where they will locate here, it is believed interest has been shown in some sites in the city.

The company intends to invest more than 25 million opening between 20 and 25 stores across the UK in the next three to five years.

A spokesperson for Home Bargains said: “At a time when many businesses are contracting, Home Bargains is thriving. It is now one of the biggest privately owned companies in the UK, and boasts over 190 stores nationwide. The company’s aims to further extend its store network will offer a massive boost to local economies.

“The investments will be opportunity-led, and Home Bargains is keen to hear of any site availability. The company also hopes to hire its store management staff from the local area, before launching a recruitment campaign to fill any remaining positions.”
