The newly launched plans include development of opportunity sites, proposals for new traffic management proposals a new combined transport hub, streetscape improvements and civic space.

Other issues which engaged the attention of the delegates were the NIIRA manifesto, measures to attract new investment and support start up businesses, marketing the town’s offer using new smart technology, building on the towns cultural and built heritage and tourism product and plans for development of a new regional college.

Speaking after the meeting Mayor John Finlay said: “During the consultation, people from all walks of life, engaged in the process. It was good to see this overall level of interest in the development of our town. The town masterplan which emerged from the process provides us with a strategy and vision for the town going forward.

Council has now put arrangements in place to lead the implementation of the plans for action which will deliver a vision for our town centre which generates increased visitors and spend, retains jobs, creates jobs and contributes to the long term viability of our town centre.”

Chamber President, Winnifred Mellett, explained: “ We want to maximise all the opportunities for development of the town. The town has a unique character with a mix of family owned and run businesses and some national chains. Over the decades the town business community has developed an envied reputation for friendliness and service.

“With the new masterplan in place Ballymoney is poised to exploit its unique customer image among resident and tourist populations alike. For us it’s all about opening up new opportunities and strengthening the towns retail and hospitality offer. As a Chamber our aim is to make a difference to business in the town and ensuring the views of businesses are heard within government.”
