R.E.A.C.H Across to new friends

LOCAL youth group R.E.A.C.H Across are currently seeking 200 young people (14 to17-year-olds) from throughout the W.E.L.B area, for cross-community activity residentials during March and April. The principal aim of the residentials will be to allow young people from a wide area to make new friends and provide opportunities to gain new experiences, social skills and qualifications.

The 2010 residentials will take place in Tobermore, Ballycastle, Portrush and Portadown and activities will include assault courses, go-karting, inflatable games, ice-skating, banana boat, laser quest, indoor caving, trampolining etc. The cost to members for a residential is 30 and this covers accommodation, food, activities and transport.

After the residential weekends, members can take part in a range of activities, day trips and training courses such as drugs and alcohol awareness, guitar skills, acting lessons, cheerleading, basic first aid, trampolining, canoeing, catering skills, youth leadership training etc. Members can also attend weekly group meetings, some of which will be held in Strabane, Omagh and Enniskillen. These meetings will allow members to meet up with their new friends on a regular basis and to be involved in planning activities for the remainder of the year. There are also day trips to theme parks, projects with other youth groups, weekly meetings, talent nights etc.

INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMME

Since 1999, R.E.A.C.H. Across have been involved with international projects in Sweden, Portugal, Poland, France, Belgium, Denmark, Romania, Bulgaria and Estonia.

We are currently planning a 10 day youth project in Romania this Summer. During an international exchange, members visit tourist sites, participate in a range of activities, sample international food recipes and learn about respective cultures and traditions. However, members who do not wish to be selected for international projects, can attend outdoor activity camps for a week in July or August.

TRAINING PROGRAMME

Training courses will include drugs awareness, youth rights, child protection, photography, drama, guitar skills, driving lessons, cooking skills, suicide prevention etc.
