Rea '˜over the moon' at award nomination

Rea received the nomination for his role as leading man Oscar Lindquist in Lisnagarvey Operatic Society’s recent production of ‘Sweet Charity’

Reacting to the news that he was in the running for the award for ‘Best Comedian’, Rea said he was “absolutely over the moon”.

“It’s an honour to be nominated for an AIMS award. I have been involved with Lisnagarvey Operatic from a very young age and have witnessed my peers being nominated/winning awards. I always wondered what that would feel like and now I know. It’s fantastic!

“There is no doubt that the scene that got me the nomination was the famous ‘Stuck in the Elevator Scene’. There was no hiding in this scene as we were confined to a very small portion of the stage and all eyes were on us. Myself and Lauren Molloy who played the title character in the show ‘Sweet Charity’ worked tirelessly to perfect the pace and dramatisation of the scene.

“This was a very special show for me. I relished in the chance to play such a great character with such a supportive bunch of people. I am delighted that hard work paid off and that I have a chance of bringing it home for the entire company of ‘Sweet Charity’.

“I will be attending the AIMS awards ceremony with my ‘Sweet Charity’ Lauren on my arm, which seems only fitting. This nomination is as much Lauren’s as mine. Win or not I am over the moon with my nomination and humbled to be standing alongside some fantastic performers in this category.

“I’d personally like to thank director Wilfie Pyper, my Charity Lauren Molloy and the entire cast and committee of Lisnagarvey Operatic and Dramatic Society.”
