Public realm work to start in Magherafelt's Queen Street

New sandstone paving, granite kerbs and foundations for new street furniture form part of the construction work which aims to enhance the town centre and is being funded by Mid Ulster District Council and the Department for Social Development (DSD).

The current stage of work will stretch from the Diamond Fish and Chip shop to First Trust Bank and take approximately six weeks to complete.

Work is ongoing as part of the wider public realm scheme includes The Diamond and connecting streets such as Market Street, Rainey Street, Broad Street and Church Street.

The traditional Thursday market which normally takes place in the Diamond is being held in Rainey Street car park for the duration of the public realm work.

Separate to the public realm work currently underway is sewer replacement work on Market Street in the town by Northern Ireland Water. Similar schemes are taking place at Cookstown and Dungannon thanks to an £8m package through the Department of DSD and the Council, aimed at improving and enhancing town centres and making them more attractive to shoppers.
