Pub ‘big sleep in’ to help children with cancer

THE staff of the JD Wetherspoon pub in Lisburn will be showing their support for children with cancer and their families next weekend through a ‘Big Sleep In’ event.

The fundraising event takes place on April 27 with staff sleeping in the pub for a night to raise funds for CLIC Sargent’s Homes from Home Appeal.

Daren Niven, Area Manager for JD Wetherspoon in Northern Ireland said; “The Big Sleep In involves spending a night in the pub, away from home without practical things like a shower or loved ones nearby. These are just a few examples of the challenges that families can face while a child or young person has cancer treatment so far away from home.

“We’re hoping that our Lisburn customers will get behind this event by sponsoring our staff members to take part in the Big Sleep In and help raise awareness and funds for CLIC Sargent’s appeal.

“Our pubs have been supporting CLIC Sargent in the UK since 2002, so we know it is a great charity. However, this campaign is especially close to our hearts as it will support local families in Northern Ireland.”

Teresa Sloan, Appeal Director at CLIC Sargent said; “Our Homes from Home Appeal aims to raise funds to build and run two new Homes from Home close to the main hospitals in Belfast.”

“On average, families in Northern Ireland travel 95 miles up to five times a week to access the cancer treatment their child needs. The Homes from Home will ease that financial and emotional burden and most importantly, will create a place for families to stay together away from the hospital.”
