Vice Chair to speak at Woman’s Day event in Armagh

BANBRIDGE District Council’s vice Chairman, Elizabeth Ingram, will be one of four high profile women sharing their experiences and inspiring a group of young adults at a special International Women’s Day event.

The cluster councils of Armagh City & District, Banbridge District and Craigavon Borough have been working together to invite 180 young people aged 16-18 years from schools across the three areas to hear acclaimed athlete and mountaineer Hannah Shields, Mayor of Armagh City & District Council, Councillor Sharon Haughey and Mayor of Craigavon Borough Council, Councillor Carla Lockhart at the event, to be held in Armagh City Hotel on Friday March 8.

Each speaker will give a synopsis of what inspires them, how they as women have worked to change their local communities and how they balance their lifestyle and yet still work towards maintaining women’s equality in all aspects of life.

Hannah Shields, who is also the first woman from Northern Ireland to reach the summit of Everest, will share with the audience how; against all the odds, women can conquer many barriers to achieve the highest of goals and will encourage the young people never to lose sight of their dreams.

Banbridge District Council Chief Executive, Liam Hannaway commented, “We are delighted to be working together with our neighbouring Councils in organising such an inspirational event and trust that the young people who attend will be inspired to believe that they too can achieve their dreams.”
