Play sends out powerful message to young people

Popping Candy will resonate with anyone trying to understand and come to terms with the issues facing this generation’s young people. It highlights how readily drugs are available to young people – no matter what their class, gender, age, or where they live – and also focuses on mental health problems facing the youth of today.

The play took place at Linn Primary School and was watched by youth leaders, community groups, statutory agencies, young people and parents. Information stands were set up on the night to provide advice and support before and after the performance.

Funded by the National Lottery through the Arts Council’s Small Grants Programme, the play is produced by Patricia Downey and the Spanner In The Works theatre company and is currently touring the Province.

Patricia Brennan from LEDCOM said: “Popping Candy successfully delivered a message about the issues facing young people today and captivated many of the young people in the audience.

“The forum would pay tribute to the work of Patricia Downey and the cast.”
