Plans for major drainage scheme in Magherafelt

THE Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has released proposals for a major drainage scheme in the Highfield and Moneymore Road areas of Magherafelt.

The scheme is currently at the design stage and it is hoped work will start on site later this year.

Local SDLP Councillor Jim Campbell said that this was good news for residents in these parts of the town and also the wider catchment area.

“Ongoing discussions have been taking place with the Rivers Agency to take remedial action as flooding has been a blight for some time particularly in parts of Westland,” said Mr Campbell.

“Prevailing climatic conditions in recent winters have also exacerbated matters and it is vital that these long overdue improvements are completed without undue delay.”

A copy of the proposed scheme is available for inspection at Magherafelt District Council Offices from 9am to 5pm.
